The Investigation

Three Pieces of Evidence

Our investigation uncovered the mechanisms behind Nigeria's most brazen pharmaceutical fraud.

Evidence #1

Not Registered With NAFDAC

A search of NAFDAC's public drug registry returns zero results for "Ozempic" (semaglutide injection, Novo Nordisk). Neither the brand name nor the manufacturer has applied for or received registration in Nigeria.

Under Nigerian law, selling an unregistered pharmaceutical product is a criminal offence punishable by fine and imprisonment. Every seller of "Ozempic" in Nigeria is operating illegally.

Evidence #2

Fake Pens Are Dangerous

Laboratory analysis of pens seized in Lagos and Abuja revealed contents ranging from saline water to industrial-grade insulin to unknown substances. None contained pharmaceutical-grade semaglutide.

The cold chain is consistently broken. These pens are shipped without refrigeration through tropical heat, rendering any peptide content inactive. You are injecting a mystery substance into your body.

Evidence #3

Real Alternatives Exist

Compounded semaglutide—the same active ingredient as Ozempic—is available from licensed compounding pharmacies. These are produced under clinical-grade conditions with proper quality controls.

Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound) is also available as a compounded formulation. Both are available at affordable pricing through licensed pharmacies — a fraction of what counterfeit sellers charge.
